Colour of the Year 2018

Colour of the Year 2018

Ultra Violet - PANTONE 18-3838

2018's colour of the year is a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade. Since 2000 Pantone has been choosing a colour of the year, there have been various pinks and blues, but this is the first Purple.

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

Justine enjoys incorporating colour into many of her projects, ultra violet purple being one of the many colours she and the clients sometimes choose to bring a space to life. This outdoor terrace with breathtaking views is complimented by a bright purple outdoor rug and a couple of cushions.

Villa Port Andratx Purple Terrace

Ultra Violet is this years trendy colour. Add a little Purple to your home!

This bold Bathroom from one of Justine's projects incorporates many shades of ultra violet purple in the shower's mosaic tiles and in the vanity's upholstered pouff. The bedroom below is another example of how to use ultra violet purple, this time in more muted tones, paired with cream and silver creating a more elegant feel. Purple is the only pop of colour used in both rooms, paired with other neutral tones it let's that colour do all the talking.

If sticking to only Ultra Violet Purple is too scary for you, you can always mix it with other colours! In our Home staging Project in Port Andratx we made the purple fireplace and rugs work by mixing in bright orange and electric blue. A big piece of art on the wall with these colours and some throw cushions decorating the beige sofa really helped bring all the elements together, and with the orange armchairs and coffee table we balanced it all out.

Living Room Villa Port Andratx

In our Villa Bendinat Project we had an open plan kitchen, dining room and living room in which the client wanted a bright and colourful look. The main feature was the Missoni Home PassionFlower print curtains, and from them Justine picked out three colours to them tie the room together: Purple, Orange and Green. In this case purple is not the main colour in the room, it is actually the second or third most used but without it the space would not be the same. The contrasting cushions and the upholstered purple leather dining chairs and a couple of home accessories may not be the main feature but certain are indispensable to the room as a whole.

Justine Knox Interior Design Interview with ABC Mallorca

In ABC Mallorcas Interior Designers on Mallorca series, Justine Knox, Knox Design, was interviewed. Justine was asked about her dream projects, her eclectic fusion of styles and about how she planned on opening a second concept and funiture store in Mallorca.

Read the interview below:

Where are you from originally?

I was born in the UK

How long have you been living on Mallorca?
For more than t
hirty years.

What do you love most about living on Mallorca?
The mix of people and cultures; meeting interesting people; the climate, and a great location to travel in and out of.

Where is your interior design space?

I have one very large store in Son Bugadellas close to Santa Ponsa and a second shop in Portals Nous in the southwest of the island.

How would you describe your décor style?
It is eclectic: a fusion of styles which enhance each other. In the end it is all about creating the client’s dream not mine! The décor always has to suit the property and the lifestyle of the owners.

What is your top interior design tip for readers?
Surround yourself only with items that are useful or give you pleasure; otherwise get rid of them. You should feel immediately at home once you walk into your property.

Give me a profile of your typical client.

A busy professional who has bought a holiday home and appreciates a quality lifestyle without the hassle. It is a mix of nationalities.

What would be your dream project?
Having the time to do my own holiday home!!! Transforming a house or hotel in a deserted area, with only natural elements surrounding the property . . .

Which is the most interesting project you have ever done and why?
Mon Port House. I met the English couple after they saw some of my projects online. After, literally, a half-hour meeting, they said OK, but they had two criteria: they wanted a very good oven, as the husband likes to cook, and the wife wanted large prints in the bedroom. That was it. They gave me the keys and came back six months later and moved into their new holiday home.

New Interior Design Studio by Knox Design.

2016 sees the opening of Interior Design Studio for Knox Design.

Due to the increase in projects being handled by the Knox Design team over the last few years it has become necessary to open a dedicated space for both our private clients and other professionals who turn to Knox Design to help them with their own projects and sourcing of furniture and soft furnishings.

Our love of fabrics shows no limits and we have one of the largest selections of fabrics on the island, we have literally out grown our studio located within our Home store and needed more space.

We are creating a space to work which will allow fabrics and samples to be seen together and digital mood boards to be created on the spot.
