This project involved the refurbishment of a family holiday villa in the south east of Mallorca for UK city dwellers in search of a summer haven. The brief involved the modernisation of kitchen and bathrooms and a full redecoration of the interior and exterior. Paramount for these clients was the infusion of lightness and softness into the home as well as the use of a neutral palette of natural materials; linen, cotton, rattan, light wood and stone. br> In order to maximise the luminosity of the home, all walls were painted matte white. In addition, the client had asked for no curtains in the living area, so the wood window frames were painted soft sage green, in keeping with the wood coffee table and pale green and lemon yellow scatter cushions on the L-shaped couch. The clients’ preference for uncluttered spaces meant that the mood of each area was set by textures and materials. A subtle way Justine used to add interest to an otherwise bland corridor was to use an original ceiling lampshade made of wood shavings, which projects an intricate pattern onto the surrounding surfaces. br> The bedrooms were kept serene and spacious, using floaty white curtains and light coloured soft furnishings. The master bedroom features a painted wood four poster bed and iconic white wicker peacock chair, while the guest bedroom is a calm combination of ivory and sand with coral patterned cushions. br> To keep the budget down, the bathrooms were simply given a makeover by applying micro-cement over the existing tiles and updating sinks, taps and shower trays. br> By contrast, the kitchen was renovated in full: it was insulated and waterproofed, re-floored, painted white and an island with granite countertop was added in the middle. The home edges around an outdoor area with seating and dining areas as well as a poolside terrace. Justine chose a solid oak table and wicker chairs for alfresco dining, and a comfortable all-weather rattan set for the seating area, to which she added sky blue pillows to match those on the sunbeds by the pool. br> The result was stunning: the transformation of a hitherto dark and charmless property into a light, spacious and calm summer retreat.

Client Testimonial:

'Having recently completed a refurbishment of our home in England, we were initially uncertain if our stress levels would cope with a project in Mallorca!! Enter the Knox team!
From day one of their involvement, we felt things were in good hands. We set a challenging timescale which was met without quality suffering and most importantly, we didn't feel any of the stress that there must have been locally!
We will not forget the spectacular sight of our dream villa in its finished state for the first time! We continue to have to pinch ourselves each time we see it.
Thank you to all at Knox and well done!'
