This project involved the painting and decorating, furnishing and lighting of a terraced house in a residential complex in the SW of Mallorca. The challenge was to transform a neglected property into a stylish holiday home for a large family and guests. After presenting her budget and a deadline, Justine was given carte blanche to work her magic. Once the walls had been given a fresh coat of white paint, it was time to add colour, texture and style to the property. The entrance features a statement art piece in the shape of a four-piece carved wood mandala. This leads on to the living area, where the light floods in through Roman blinds onto the neutral colour scheme of sitting and dining area. The chairs in the dining room are the same as those used outside for easy adaptation to larger groups without breaking the style.
The home has five bedrooms which, though not large, were each given a unique flavour and feel. The master bedroom features a four-poster bed of white-washed wood and exquisitely carved wood mirror, standing out against a neutral palette of soft furnishings. The daughter’s room has two joined twin beds, for alternative use as a double guest room, and features soft Designer’s Guild curtains. A fun train-bed in blue and pistachio, with striped linen curtains are in the son’s room, with Union Jack cushions as a nod to the nationality of its occupant. The other rooms are relaxing and inviting spaces decorated with pinks and teals against light backgrounds. The outside areas of this home have been decorated to show their full potential. The rooftop terrace was painted brilliant white and new turquoise and striped cushions were made for the built-in bench seating that surrounds white rattan and glass tables. Matching Fatboy poufs in brilliant turquoise by the hot-tub give the upper terrace a true Miami vibe.
Below is a round white colonial style terrace area with Doric columns and a small lawn beyond. Justine chose a wicker and wood for the outdoor dining zone and natural coloured rattan seating and daybeds with blue and yellow soft furnishings for a cool and summery feel.
The overall result is an ample holiday home with an attitude that blends fun and elegance in equal measure.
