This project involved the interior design and renovation of a ground floor apartment in the SW of Mallorca. The clients were a couple with grown up children and many grandchildren who wanted a practical and happy summer home. The full renovation works involved modernising kitchen and master bathroom and new glossy white woodwork throughout the home. A wall was knocked down to make the kitchen larger and create an eating area. The kitchen floor was also changed, whereas the rest of the flooring was given a good polish.
Often in interior design, one single piece can be the inspiration for the overall mood. On this occasion, it was a multi-coloured African handwoven basket that marked the style for tribal designs and a vibrant colour scheme.
Matte turquoise and sand colours were selected for the entrance hall, with artwork to pick up the tones. The kitchen is a mix of aqua green, wood and white, with grey speckled marble countertops and back-splashes. The main living area is a light-flooded space with two sections, dining and lounge. The teal velvet of the dining chairs is replicated in the cushions and coffee table, along with multi-coloured striped pillows, orange rug and statement artwork on the walls.
The light filters into the bedrooms through soft voile curtains, each one decorated in calming blues and creams, with touches of yellow in one room, turquoise in another, and a colourful patterned throw and pillows and teal armchair in the master bedroom. The fitted wardrobes were either painted white or mirrored, to add luminosity and a sense of space. The master bathroom was transformed into a streamlined and modern sandstone marble and white ceramic shower room, with double sink and large mirror.
The outdoor areas include a porch, which was furnished with a bright white dining table and chairs, a seating area with white rattan furniture and a small lawn, featuring two sunbeds.
The overall effect of the décor chosen was one of muted elegance and vibrant colours, perfected for family holidays in the sun.
